Karen Sugar, Founder of Women’s Global Empowerment Fund (WGEF), is a social justice entrepreneur with 25+ years of experience providing leadership, initiative and vision to local and international empowerment programs, with a special focus on economic and leadership development, advocacy, reproductive health, conflict, food security and poverty issues relating to women and families.
As Founder and Director of Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, based in Denver and Los Angeles, Sugar and her mission extend internationally, providing tools and programs creating economic, social and political empowerment to women and families. The mission of WGEF stems from a life-long commitment to human rights and social justice. while earning her Master’s degree from the University of Colorado in 2008. Her commitment continues as Adjunct Professor and lecturer at the University of Colorado, and major universities on topics of global gender issues, and international development, educating and introducing students to social justice issues and rights-based approaches to philanthropy.
